Applying Nail Wraps

Skip to Gel Nail Wrap How To Guide

Applying Nail Wraps

Step 1: Prep Nails

  • Remove cuticles by pushing them down or, using a cuticle remover. (If the wrap is applied on the cuticle, peeling or chipping may occur.)
  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Dry hands and cuticles well.
  • If nails are still oily or there is debris, use an alcohol wipe or cotton swab dipped in alcohol to remove.

Step 2 : Choose Appropriate Size

  • Choose the appropriate size of Nail Wrap for your nail. If the nail wrap is not large enough for your nail, you can stretch the it gently until it is fits.
  • If the nail wraps are too large, use small nail  scissors to cut them down to size.

Step 3: Applying the Nail Wrap

  • Remove clear cover from wrap.
  • Carefully lift the nail polish strip from the backing by pulling on the tab.
  • Position the Wrap onto nail plate starting at the cuticle, being careful not to touch the cuticle, gently stretch to fit your nail and and smooth to prevent any wrinkles. Please note: If the wrap is applied to your skin or cuticle, it will lift easily and not have a secure bond.

Step 4: File off Excess Nail Wrap

  • Carefully crease the excess Nail Wrap over the tip of the nail.Using the nail file gently file downward to remove.

Step 5: Apply Top Coat

  • Finish with a clear top coat, applying over the tip of the nail for a longer lasting bond.
  • Applying a top coat will also help protect your wraps from ingredients in sunscreen that are similar to polish remover.
  • It is best to wait at least 6 hours before submerging your hands in hot water to give it more time to bond and set. We recommend doing this later in the day to give more time to set overnight.

Hannah’s hints:

Do's

  • Store your Nail Wraps at room temperature.
  • Use them after opening, they will begin to dry out after they are exposed to air.
  • Clean and prep nails as stated above before you apply. For best application buff and file your nails, then push back cuticles (always good to use cuticle remover here, and use an alcohol prep pad to remove any oils or lotions on your nails.
  • Remove the clear film covering the wraps before applying.
  • It’s easiest to apply the thumbs last, starting with your pinky finger and moving inward towards your thumb.
  • Gently stretch the wrap for a perfect fit. First stretch ing horizontally to make the strip wider, or stretching vertically to make the strip narrower to fit your nail.
  • Holding the strip in the middle instead of the end will allow you to better control the application.
  • Crease the strip over the nail edge before removing excess with your nail or nail file.
  •  Wearing gloves when washing the dishes and using medium-temperature water instead of very hot water when showering will also help protect your nail wraps.

Dont's

  • Don’t expose nail wraps to excessive heat or cold for a prolonged period of time. Do not leave wraps in direct sunlight or LED lighting.
  • Don’t apply lotion to hands immediately before or after application.
  • Do not apply strips over cuticles or skin. Push back cuticles and apply wrap just above cuticle, so the strip adheres directly to the nail and not the cuticle.

Removing Nail Wraps

We have two options to easily remove your nail wraps when you are ready for a change.

Option 1:

  • We actually find this to be the easiest method of removal. Apply cuticle oil at the base and sides of the nail.
  • Gently shimmy the cuticle stick under the edges starting at the base and working up the nail to loosen.
  • If there is any residue left on the nail you can use an alcohol prep pad to remove or acetone-free nail polish remover.

Tip:  First soaking your nails in lukewarm water with a little lemon or coconut oil can help speed up the removal process.

Option 2:

    • Take a small amount of cotton ball (enough to cover your nail) and soak it in the nail polish remover.
  • Place the soaked cotton on each of your nails. Let this sit on your nail for a few minutes (3-5 minutes maybe).
  • Then press down on the cotton pad and slide up from your cuticle toward the tip of your nail and it should slide off easily. If it’s sticking a bit, use the cuticle stick to gently push the wrap off from the base of the nail up toward the tip.
  • If there is any residue left on the nail you can use an alcohol prep pad to remove or acetone-free nail polish remover.

Applying Gel Nail Wraps

Step 1: Prep for Gel Nails

  • Remove cuticles by pushing them down or, using a cuticle remover. (If the wrap is applied on the cuticle, peeling or chipping may occur.)
  • Wash your hands with soap and water.
  • Dry hands and cuticles well. • If nails are still oily or there is debris, use an alcohol wipe or cotton swab dipped in alcohol to remove any oils. • For best results and healthy nails we recommend applying a base coat and let it dry.

Step 2 : Choose Appropriate Size

  • Choose the appropriate size of Nail Wrap for your nail, select a wrap that is a little smaller than your nail. If the nail wrap is not large enough for your nail, you can stretch the it gently until it fits.
  • If the nail wraps are too large, use small nail scissors to cut them down to size.

Step 3: Applying the Nail Wrap

  • Gently remove clear cover from wrap.
  • Carefully peel the gel wrap from the backing.
  • Position the wrap onto nail plate starting at the cuticle, being careful not to touch the cuticle, leaving a small gap between the cuticle and wrap.
  • Gently stretch to fit your nail and and smooth to prevent any wrinkles. Please note: If the wrap is applied to your skin or cuticle, it will lift easily and not have a secure bond.
  • You can use a wooden cuticle stick to roll over the wrap from side to side to flatten it against the nail and apply pressure to the edges of the wrap to secure.

Step 4: Trim off Excess Gel Nail Wrap

  • Carefully trim the excess wrap along the tip of the nail with small nail scissors or clippers. You can also use a nail file to fill the excess off, however trimming is easier.
  • Apply pressure to tip edge to make sure it’s secure.

Step 5: Cure Your Nails

  • Cure under your Gel LED light for 60 seconds for a strong and hard manicure.
  • Be sure to cure all of your nails evenly. It can be difficult to get all of your nails under the light at the same time. You can do your thumb separately if needed.

Step 6: Finishing

  • After curing you can lightly file the edges if needed.
  • If you want a harder finish you can apply a Gel Top Coat of your choice, however, follow manufacturers instructions on how to cure the Gel Top Coat. This is not a necessary step you will have a nice shine to your Gel Wraps without it too.

  • Store your Gel Nail Wraps at room temperature and soon after opening.
  • Once opened avoid exposing to LED light to prevent accidental curing and hardening the gel wrap before you are ready.
  • Once opened if you need to store, place back into the foil packet and store in a zip lock bag.
  • Clean and prep nails as stated above before you apply. For best application buff and file your nails, then push back cuticles (always good to use cuticle remover here, and use an alcohol prep pad to remove any oils or lotions on your nails.
  • Remove the clear film covering the wraps before applying.
